Welcome to our KUMON Study Center. It was opened in 2017 to serve the Basel community and offers both mathematics and English programs, ranging from preschool to high school.

We strongly believe that every child has the potential to learn far beyond our expectations. Therefore, our primary mission is to teach our students to "learn to learn" until they become aware of their own abilities. By monitoring individual progress and ensuring understanding, your child will be motivated and self-reliant, developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills to achieve higher education and success in his or her future job.

The learning centre has three spacious and bright rooms (one of which is reserved for the English programme), which offer a friendly but very studious atmosphere that encourages concentration and learning.

The official language of the Learning Centre is English, as we believe it helps students, even if they are not enrolled in the English programme, to familiarise themselves with a language that they will use regularly in their lives.

This study centre is proud to offer KUMON CONNECT. Click here for more details.

Marzio Lo Giudice

Hello, my name is Marzio Lo Giudice and I am the head of the KUMON Learning Center Basel-Gundeli.

Education has been a fundamental part of my own life, both as a child and as an adult, and I want to help children and students build their own strong foundations in mathematics and English

As math was my passion, I worked for many years for large IT companies and developed software solutions in the field of applied cryptography (where prime numbers play a key role). Later I led my career in business and management consulting and held various positions (Business Analyst, Project Manager, Key Account, Operations Director) for consulting companies in the telecommunications and pharmaceutical industries

In recent years, I have felt an increasing desire to give back to society some of what it had given me. I am a husband and father of a daughter. When she started her own learning path with KUMON and I saw the change in her confidence and mathematical skills, I realized that this would be my path

KUMON enables children to learn and progress independently, based on their own ability, not on their age or school class. Learning subjects they don't know at school creates self-confidence and provides a good preparation for the challenging homework in secondary school and the challenges of the Matura exam

If you would like to offer your child the best opportunities in life, you are welcome to contact me by e-mail or telephone. I look forward to answering all your questions and making an appointment with you for a placement test.

Frequently Asked Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
